The bus departs Vicenza on Monday and Thursday. From my understanding there are usually 4-5 people on the bus. I don't know how many passengers it holds, there were 40 on the one we took but this was unusual due to the active duty folks who went to Italy during Spring break and got stuck there due to the volcano and cancellation of flights. It is a beautiful 12 hour ride.

Oops, what I meant was that my understanding is that the bus departs Lanstule/Ramstein on tues morn, arrives Vicenza Tues night, and departs Vicneza to return on Thurs morn. That would mean two nights and one day in Vicenza. JC

James,

There's billeting available at Caserma Ederle, Vicenza. The bus doesn't run daily so your overnight plan won't be doable. See the Spacea.net Ramstein and Aviano Wiki pages for info on the shuttle schedules.

Dear Martha, are there space a quarters available at Vicenza? How many seats are usually available for space-a?

I thought about taking the bus from Ramstein to Vicenza, staying over 1 night, then back to Ramstein, just to see the country. JC

We took the train from Munich to Vicenza (changed at Verona) and the trip was absolutely beautiful but long (quicker than the bus). The train made a stop about every 20 minutes. Left Munich around 9:30AM and arrived in Vicenza around 4:20 PM. The price one way for 2 was 133 euros. Wes, I take it you are also here at Ramstein waiting.

This doesn't entirely pertain to the bus, but we took the train from Verona(from Vicenza to Verona it's about 45 minutes and 9.20 Euro) to Ramstein for 188 Euro and went through Innsbruck. When I get home, hopefully within a couple of days, I will post more info about the train.
We would have liked to take the bus, but the train fit our schedule better. Had we known there was nothing going out until Saturday, 4-24(maybe), when we made the train reservation we definitely would have taken the bus.

Martha,
Great info about the Medevac bus. One more question - where (i.e. hospital clinic, PX) do you get on the bus at Vicenza? Camp Ederle?

The 12 hour bus ride wasn't all that bad considering it was free. The bus seats were rather narrow and there was no arm rest between the seats but adequate leg room. At Innsbruck we turned off the main autobahn for gas and continued through on back roads. I wish I knew where we were because there were some places I would like to visit. The drive through the Tirolian Alps was beautiful but once out of the alps, was rather boring. I don't know where we picked up the main autobahn again. I would do it again but would be sure to have a pillow. There were probably a dozen children on the bus and they were all very well behaved. The first passenger dropoff was Vogelwegh, second was Ramstein and third was Landsthul. Vogelwegh and Ramstein dropped off at billetting, don't know where the dropoff was at Landsthul.

Hi, Martha. Thank you for sharing information about the Vicensa/Landstuhl medevac bus, but is that all you have to say about the trip? How was the comfort, the scenery? Would you ride that bus again? I'm curious about how you feel about whether or not the ride is worth sitting on a bus for 12 hours.

We packed snacks and water. The bus made two 30 minute stops at McDonald's, one around 11AM and the other around 4:30PM and three 5 minute bathroom stops. There was a toilet on the bus. There was no food available at the bathroom stops.

Martha, how many stops did you make along the way? Did you pack food or purchase lunch and dinner? Thanks for any additional info you provide!
