It would seem that if this fits you it sure is a good deal. I seem to remember that Hertz USA does roughly the same on a seasonal basis moving cars to and from Florida and colder climes.

Good news and bad news.

Good news is that the rates are only 1 euro per day.

Bad news is that it is only until 27Apr10 and you only have 2 days to get to your destination.

I don't know if this is a typical thing or if it is because of the volcano, but Hertz wants cars returned to their 'home' country and is willing to waive the dropoff fee.

Here is the list of actual cars, where they need to go, and where they are at. The current page shows British pickup locations.

Looks like you could rent a car at Heathrow and drive it to Germany.
