Cherry C.,

What's curious about the situation is that there's a law that citizens must follow and fines established. Unfortunately, nothing is done about it. I did notice a change in the urbanization where my son lives in Puerto Real (Cádiz) and after asking my son about it, he indicated that meetings amongst citizens are taking place in different locations of the City and that the word of the day is that they will start with the fines. Further, I've heard from friends that it's indeed taking place and that many have been already fined, and believe it or not fines are "very high". Aleluya!

But nevertheless, it will take me a little while to stop looking at the floor everytime I walk, especially at night in the dark. And by the way, I suggest you do too.

Happy travels!

I agree that Cadiz is well worth exploring on foot, and has lovely squares, waterfront walks, restaurants large and small and even at least one excellent museum.

Just one question though -- have they trained the locals to clean up after their dogs, or must you still watch your step everywhere you walk?

A nice day trip from NS Rota is by ferry from the port of Rota (Town, not the base) to Cadiz across the bay. Lots of interesting tourist walking tours in Cadiz, each one COLOR CODED! Just follow the colored line painted on the streets and sidewalks that corresponds to whichever walking tour you are taking. Get literature at Tourist Office in Cadiz.

You can use the ferry going to Cadiz and then return to Rota by bus, getting to see some more of the area that way.

The town of Jerez is readily available by bus from the town of Rota. Dependable and cheap. Jerez is where the world famous Sherry wines are made. Take guided tours of the bodegas for a small fee. Sherry tasting included.
