Rowland, I can empathize with you as I rolled a car in New Zealand totaling the it two years ago. Good luck. |

John and Martha You might be right, I was thinking I turned the insurance down, but I just went back and read the contract again and CDW is included with the rate. So, I might be out $900.00. It was the truck who was wrong and his insurance should pay. BUT? we shall see.. |

Martha, That's correct. Many credit card companies will cover rental insurance in lieu of the CDW (e.g. the link to Masterrental below) and one of the stipulations is that you decline the CDW from the rental car company. http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/gen-content/en.htm |

Didn't think the credit card would pay unless the CSW was declined at the time of rental. Let us know how it turns out. |

Martha, You may be thinking of Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance (which I'm sure Rowland had). Sounds like Rowland ended up paying the deductible on the CDW (which is called the "excess" in some countries). |

I thought rental companies in the UK required that you take their insurance. |

Rowland: You were fortunate to only be charged 650 BPS...In some European countries, you could have been charged the full price of the car (to be sorted out after you returned to the US). Happy Travels, John |

Almost made the 3 weeks in England without a problem. I rented a car from Enterprise for 22 pounds a day for 21 days. I planned on turning it in on a Sat in Mildenhall, but on Fri., on the M-25 an 18 wheeler from Poland decieded to change lanes and hit us. No one hurt and not a whole lot of damage. I turned the car in on Sat. morning and was changed the excess of 650 Pounds. Mastercard will pick it up if the 18 wheeler's insurance does not, but it has been charged to my card. A bunch of paperwork and time to get all this straight. I guess it will all come out in the wash, but what a bummer on the end of great trip. |
