All trains and train stations in Germany are now non-smoking. ((except in designated areas on the platforms-very few) |

My Wife and I usually drive; however, we have used the train to Berlin. Our first experience in 1968 taught us that in large cities parking may be scarce and therefore something to be aware of when seeking lodging. Of course parking is always a problem. Our experience with the train was that the only vacant seats in the compartments were in a smoking compartment. But in an open car (to Paris) we met some nice folks. Just some thoughts for you to mull over. |

What tolls in Germany? We go every year to Munich and have never encountered toll roads. |

You have chosen to fly at a good time. It will probably be personal preference whether you use the train or a car rental. Consider the time you will spend in Germany and if it is worth it to drive. You will see more of the country driving and you will be able to stop in any towns you want to take a closer look at. But you have to pay tolls and fuel. No matter what you chose, you can't go wrong. Happy Travels |

I'm a CAT VI flying solo out of Washington State. I've flown Space A a couple of times but not to Europe. I plan to depart out of McChord in mid-September and fly to Germany (either Ramstein or Spangdahlem) via the East Coast for a one-week whirlwind tour. Once on-the-ground in Germany, is it best to rent a car or utilize public transportation (trains, etc.)? Plan on seeing Berlin and a couple of other cities. Any other seasoned advice is welcome as well. Thanks!! |
