Prisilla, would you consider moving to Guam? That's where we need your services the most. |

Prisilla - Don't overlook legal complications/costs; licensing, insurance, etc. You might run into some entrenched interest barriers regarding licensing. On the other hand, if you're considering operating unlicensed on a donation basis you could get your posterior parts in a legal sling if your operation comes to the attention of the commercial taxi operators. I speak from a related experience. I used to take people sailing and scuba diving on my 41' sailboat boat on Oahu. I charged nothing and wouldn't even allow people to buy my lunch. You wouldn't BELIEVE the heat I got from the commercial operators. |

Prisilla, Are you talking about 1 vehicle or a small group of several cars-maybe a van or two? Having several available vehicles would be important especially if you are talking about island tours as well as a shuttle service. It would certainly be well received in many situations but negative comments would arise if you could not service the majority of clients IE not available because we are doing an island tour. You are starting in the correct direction by asking but do a complete cost study before you make major obligations. |

Prisilla: I agree with Larry. There is a great need for your services. Even if you only worked around Hickam, you would make money. The guys who provide trns services at Charleston, Dover and Travis have no problem making money just serving their bases and the local area. Go for it. Happy Travels. |

I too disagree with Carole: there is a GREAT need for transportation between K-Bay and HIK/Pearl. And yes, I know it is indeed possible to take The Bus from K-Bay to HIK....if you don't mind spending upwards of 3 hours, two transfers and double the normal fare to do it. Plus risking the possiblility that any of the 3 drivers you have to deal with will refuse to let you board if he/she thinks your bag is too large. In short, yes, a reasonably priced shuttle service in Hawaii would be well-received. |

Well my idea was to do a on-call service to anywhere on the island for a base fee or rent out for the whole day for a set fee to sight see. For example: you fly in to k-bay and need a ride to hotel in Honolulu or Hickem. Just call ahead and I'll be waiting!! Or You want to go clear around the island sight seeing and go to some of the local hidden places. I'll pick you up and take u where ever you like and provide suggestions for a daily rate. |

Prisilla: A need exists especially for those of us who rent cars at one point - KBay - then fly out of Hickam. Or vice-vesus: Rent car at Hickam and fly out of KBay. The drop charge is usually more than we want to pay so whatever you charged under that would be a savings in my opinion. |

My Dearest Prisilla, my wife and I go to Hawaii every Dec or Jan and normally the only place we can get billeting on short notice is K-Bay and perfer flying into there from southern Ca. Transportion to Honolulu or Hickam is poor and expensive until you get settled on the Island. Cost and availability rule a SPATS travel plans and that would be the only controlling factor for us. Priscilla - Bless you! You could "do good by doing well", if you were to start a SPAT shuttle service. If I were you, I'd start by talking to the guys at PAX terminal at K-Bay and get a feeling for how often folks go looking for transportation. Because the terminal is way out at Hangar 5 and the Enterprise office is at the Exchange, you might find a ready-made market in that route alone. An on-call service between Hickam and K-Bay also seems to be a lucratuive proposition. Best of luck in your new venture -- keep us posted! |

Free bus service between Hickam and Pearl Harbor to the Hale Koa is available. The best way to get around the island to sight see is a rental car. There is no transportation between K-Bay and Hickam/Pearl harbor, but I would not see the need. If Spats want to go over to K-bay to catch a flight, they probably take a rental car. |

Hi Prisilla, I am not sure the meaning of your question. I will respond as a visitor. For us SPATS traveling alone or needing the cheepest way to get to Honolulu, yes there is a great need. I wish there is a shuttle service to the rest of the island. The "Bus" is great for Honolulu but for the rest of Oahu, the transportation sucks. Just my opionion. Happy Travels |

I have lived in Hawaii for 10 yrs now as a military spouse and love to MAC. I always find people doing shuttle service but wondered if Hawaii had someone doing it to serve Hickem and K-Bay???? I'm a driver now and considering the idea. Do ya'lll think there is a need? |
