Bob, Lots of gift shops at Kadena, the OWC is just one of many. It's kind of overwhelming. The new Exchange complex had a "ton" of gift shops operating as AAFES concessionaires. Even the Shogun Inn has a gift shop! |

Hi Bob Radar! There is still the USO located inside the Kadena passenger terminal but its hours are very irregular due to limited funding but I think they are usually open on Patriot Express days (Saturdays) and other days too. They do have nice gifts for sale and it's a nice USO. Happy Travels! |

If you have children, Elmendorf will only rent you a room in the TLF. I don't know about the Kanto Inn policy. |

Fantastic report! I think I will attempt the Northern route. One question: Does either Inn at Elmendorf or Yokota allow children (age 10)? |

Great report, and as Tom said, when you go to save the document, just select the .doc version instead of the .docx version. I have to do this all the time because many of my friend don't have Word 2007. |

William- Thank you for the excellent written detailed trip report. In 1991 or 1992 (after Pinatubo erupted) there was a gift shop at Kadena AB that was run by the military (officers?) wives. That Gift Shop had items of: souvenirs, fabrics, furnishings, dolls, chests, and art all gathered from various countries near south east asia. I would like to know if that shop exists or if there is a similar shop at Kadena? I hope to make a re-acquaintance trip to Kadena and Clark in a few years (after my civil service retirement). Best regards on your vacation and continued good fortune in Space A connections. -Bob |

This version should be readable by most folks.

William... You will need to save it in the "Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc) format. This will make it readable by anyone regardless of what version of Microsoft Word they have. It always works for me. Alternatively, you can save it in Adobe's *.pdf format which also works for most users. Best of luck...I wanna read it too! Are you still in Kadena. I have had no luck in getting through to them from off base, this happens from time to time but can go on for days. |

My wife updated my netbook computer before I left home, and installed Office 2007, with the current version of Word. I'm on the road and haven't figured out how to reformat my word doc.x document so it is readable to earlier versions of Office. If you follow the link John D posted, you might be able to download the Microsoft Word Viewer to convert the document. I hated to post the report as I did, but it was the best I could do at the moment with the resources I had on hand. My home desktop computer has the older version of Office and this probably wouldn't have been a problem had I created the document with it. This is starting to sound like the excuse that the dog ate my homework.... |

Must be me, but I have tried everything...still shows as an "Unknown File". Bill, any chance I could get that report in .doc? I am really interested to read it, as I am planning the same trip. |

If you don't have Word 2007 or a compatible program then you may need to download Microsoft Word Viewer to read his report. Microsoft Word Viewer |

I've tried to paste in my report but I keep getting an "Internal server error" notice, plus a 404 Not found error. So I guess you will have to open the attached word doc to read my report.

Try breaking it into sections and making multiple postings. That is what I had to do the last time I had that problem. |

I've written a lengthy, and detailed trip report ref this subject using m/s word, and have tried to cut and paste it into this thread. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error message when I hit post. Any suggestions from those who are not so technically challenged? Sorry. In short it was a success, many details buried in the story. Cheers |
